By Residence Redefined · Ontario homeowner guide
In Brampton, you can check a building permit application while it is under plans review through the City's online Brampton Maps property search (MyBrampton). Once the permit is issued, inspections are viewed and booked on the Brampton Building and Business Portal, either with an account or as a guest using your permit number and authorization key.
- Under review: search your property on Brampton Maps (maps1.brampton.ca/mybrampton) to see the application status.
- Issued: book and track inspections on the Brampton Building and Business Portal.
- Your authorization key comes in the permit issuance email. Without it, contact Building Services.
Where do I check my Brampton permit status?
The City of Brampton says customers can search property information or check a permit application's status on Brampton Maps. This is most useful while the application is being reviewed by the City's Plans Examiner team.
After the permit is issued, the status of your inspections is shown on the Brampton Building and Business Portal instead.
- Official map search: maps1.brampton.ca/mybrampton (linked in the sources below).
- Search by your property address.
- If your designer or contractor applied for you, they may receive City notices first, so ask them too.
Using the Brampton Building and Business Portal
The portal is the City's online service for applying and paying for permits, booking inspections and requesting documents. Registered users can view and manage all their permits and inspections in one place.
If you don't want an account, you can use the portal as a guest with your permit number and authorization key. The key is included in the permit issuance email.
My application is still under review. What now?
During review, a plans examiner checks the drawings against the Ontario Building Code and zoning. If items need to be clarified or corrected, the applicant is asked to respond before review continues. That is a normal step, not a refusal.
Answer with one coordinated set of revised drawings and notes. Partial answers can lead to another round of comments and more waiting.
Booking inspections in Brampton
According to the City, inspections can be booked Monday to Friday, excluding statutory holidays, up to 5 business days ahead. At 3 p.m. each day, the next business day closes for booking. Inspections take place between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., and the attendee must be on site and familiar with the work.
For some project types, including two-unit dwellings, garden suites, decks, basement finishes and below-grade entrances, the portal's Documents tab includes a guide to the order inspections should be booked in.
- If your permit has a revision, schedule the inspection on both the original permit and the revision.
- For occupancy or final inspections, book Building, Plumbing and HVAC for the same day.
Closing the permit
When the work is finished, book the final inspections so the permit can be closed. An open permit can raise questions later, for example when you sell the home or apply for new work.
